Performance

We are host to a range of concert series throughout the year which provide all students the opportunity to build confidence, express themselves and empower others, here are some examples:

  • This is our largest event of the year, held at an iconic venue within Hobsons Bay the Gala gives students the opportunity to shine on a big stage, complete with accompanying band awards and scholarships, red carpet, pro sound and lights. In 2023 we had over 100 students step into the spotlight at Williamstown Town Hall!

  • Held at our performance space, this gives those who may be new to learning music or performing a comfortable, relaxed and informal environment to perform to a small, encouraging audience. We understand that some students may feel nervous about performing (which is absolutely okay!) and begin with fun games and activities.

  • Short and informal recital-like sessions that include an interactive music learning workshop. We encourage and initiate dialogue between students about their performance, what they did well and any handy tips. This allows students to make new friends and feel supported.

  • We frequently get out to the local community at markets and festivals, in 2023 we sponsored and performed at Youth Fest, Cherry Lake market and more.

What People Are Saying

I really recommend Hobsons Bay Music Academy. Nick is really easy to talk to and tries hard to find you a good teacher that will suit your kids. It was fantastic because my daughters got the option of trying one teacher first to see how I felt.

Nick regularly checks in with you to see how you're doing and it is important to him that all the students are happy and I'm sure he would do his best if someone were to have a problem.

My daughters teachers are great and they get along well. I really like this school because it seems that all the teachers have very different personalities and teaching styles which means there is a teacher for everyone. - Nash

As a proud parent of students at Hobson's Bay Music Academy, I can confidently say that our experience has been nothing short of extraordinary. For years, starting from the tender age of 3, my children have been immersed in the nurturing, supportive, and inspirational environment fostered by the school.

Nick and his team of dedicated teachers have created a platform that not only educates but also fuels a deep-seated passion for music. Their professionalism and courtesy go hand in hand with their commitment to encourage each student to grow at their own pace, and to love and appreciate music as a form of personal expression.

The school isn't just about learning music; it's also about the community. Friendships are forged and kids are emboldened to step outside of their comfort zones. HBMA's concerts are a testament to this - they provide a brilliant platform for students to showcase their talents, and the growth in their confidence is evident with each performance.

In essence, Hobson's Bay Music Academy offers an unparalleled educational journey that is as enriching as it is enjoyable. If you're considering a place for your child to fall in love with music and be supported every step of the way, I wholeheartedly recommend HBMA.

HBMA is a great music school that not only offers professional teachers but also works together like a family. This inspires kids to learn and enjoy music at the same time. I always hear the teacher ask the question ‘What are your favourite songs or style of music?’ It allows the teachers to understand each students personal interest and allows them to tailor the lessons suitable for the children as well as making sure they are having fun.

The other this I like about this school is the communication between the teachers and parents. As a parent, having great communication is my priority. Unlike other schools which use the traditional methods (e.g face to face, SMS or email) this school uses an online platform which tracks individual students learning criteria on a weekly basis. It allows both students and parents to keep track of their practice time and ask questions via messages if need.

At HBMA, there are always opportunities for the kids to join workshops and to perform at different venues to gain confidence. Jarvis is an aspiring little drummer, who gained interest within a band environment after attending his first workshop. After speaking with his teacher Nick, he suggested that this would be a great way for Jarvis to connect with other kids that share the same passion in music and enhance his learning to the next level. Jarvis is now in a band and loves practising all the time.

Nick is a great teacher, very patient with children. He has great knowledge in drum and music. His lessons are well constructed with a great balance of theories and techniques skills, so the children won’t get bored. Highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a drum teacher.
